Jo Powell is a Cheltenham-based artist who is largely self-taught and passionately dedicated to her craft. After more than two decades away from drawing, she rekindled her love for art in 2018—a journey inspired by childhood memories of her grandfather, Dennis Kitchen, a fellow wildlife artist. Immersed in creativity from a young age, Jo pursued her passion through to an art foundation course before building a diverse career in Graphic Design and Marketing. Although creativity was a constant in her professional life, traditional drawing took a back seat—until a pivotal invitation to illustrate a friend’s Wellness Journal reignited her artistic spark.
Inspired by the innocence, purity, and fragility of the natural world, Jo’s work celebrates nature’s beauty, offering a quiet reminder of its significance and resilience. She works across various mediums, primarily using graphite pencil, while expanding into acrylic painting. Her detailed, layered pieces explore nature’s intricacies, and she delights in the slow, meditative process of creation—often dedicating weeks to a single piece.
Jo creates original artworks and prints, and also welcomes commissions.
